|

|
Abstract
|
|
|
The status of CAPD patients was surveyed to promote the effective care of CAPD patients.
The subjects in this survey were 71 patients (M: 33, F: 38) who were on CAPD for 1 month or over in Seoul.
The data were collected between June 20, 1990 and August 20, 1990 through home visiting.
The findings of this survey are as follow:
1. Environment; The only 11 subjects (15.49 %) have private room.
2. Education; 68 subjects (95.77 %) were educated about CAPD care after catheter insertion for 1 week ~3 weeks and want continuous education. 3. CAPD care;
1) 36 subjects (50.70 %) exchanged dialysate 4 times a day.
2) 48 subjects (67.60 %) used low concentrated and high concentrated dialysates as same ratio (1:1).
3) 68 subjects (95.77 %) experienced peritonitis and 71.83 % subjects treated at home.
4) 11.27 % of subjects didn¢¥t wash hand strictly, 95.77 % didn¢¥t wear glove and 60.56 % didn¢¥t wear mask during bag exchanges.
5) 57.75 % of subjects did daily dressing around catheter exit-site.
The most important part of the CAPD care is to prevent complication including peritonitis and pericatheter infection. Therefore the education program for CAPD self-care must focus on training patients for aseptic technique during bag exchanges and training to detect and treat peritonitis at home.
